I received a prompt asking if we are going to ride somewhere before we all go back to the grind-stone of hectic corporate South Africa.

I decided to plan a route, based on routes done with the Club over the years, and to combine them to have some elements of what we experience on a typical GS monthly ride, without having a too hectic / long outing.

I posted an invitation on our Club's Facebook page, and guess what, 10 bikes / 1 pillion part-took in the ride! Nice start for the year.

We started of promptly after 07H00, quick briefing of the route and re-iterating the basic rules being followed during our Club rides. First dirt greeted us just past Smut's House, from where we picked up some nice seldom used tracks. This followed with the popular bridge under the R21, some dirt highways towards an old Motor-cross track where we let the inner-child's loose to play a bit.

Railway line riding, an optional water-crossing, scenic stop on the train bridge, where after we all scooted off to Kitty Hawk to enjoy a well deserved liquid refreshment(s) and breakfast.

Was nice to see all the "old faces". Marius - good to see you back on the bike as well.

Hope that this unofficial GS ride will lead to many more impromptu rides being arranged by the Club's Members - both S and GS.

I'll post some pics, and hopefully it will be followed by more action shots from the other riders (as the lead rider somehow misses a lot of the action).

Just wondering why Lee-Anne opted to rather walk than riding with John through the water. Andries - need your help in explaining this wise decision.

Inner child @ play

John - either waiting for the train or trying to be a pro-photographer:

Seems there was a bit of dust after all the muddy patches.

Last time I went through the water with her, I ended up with a yellow submarine... It is noted that to failed to mention that I did go through the other water with her on the back, albeit with a lack of directional stability on the one :ricky:

Thanks Pikkie for a great unofficial first ride for the year, and to Anton for Sweeping. With such a ride it has to be a good year ahead.

Pikkie congrats on a great idea!

a suggestion to advertise this in future here on this forum as well, and not just on Facebook?

Thanks for your initiative, time and effort!
