24 Bikes and 31 people set off in chilly sunny weather for the signature ride.
The route took in N14 to Diepsloot turnoff, then the R511 towards Harties.
Just before the junction with "previously Church Street" extension,
we encountered the dirt rider group engaged in some friendly banter with law enforcement officers.

(The area recently had all speed limits reduced to 80 or even 60 kms/hr...!)

We turned the corner toward Pelindaba and regrouped to avoid tar riders becoming off-roaders by accident.
The route continued to join the R512 and turned right across the Harties bridge.
(They are building a new pass towards Brits there.)
Right down to the Engen Garage 4-way stop and left on the R104 towards Rustenburg.
Just where the new pass will come in, we turned another right (I had forgotten this one)
and made our way nto the N4 towards Rustenburg.

We stopped at the Total Petroport Magalies for a smoke break and leg stretch.
(I said 15 min but it always seems to take 30)

Then we set off again, taking the Mooinooi offramp to avoid the Buffelspoort toll gate.
We were running a little late so I did not stop at Buffelspoort or Olifantsnek dams,
making up time to get to Van Gaalens before the brekkie menu shut down.

The route back from Olifants Nek always seems to take ages and this day was no different.
This stretch is 120kms and it takes 80 minutes at least at posted limit speed.
(The speed limits have also been reduced on the R24)

The ride leaders arrived by 11:15 and the sweeps got in around 11:30
due to slower riders quite correctly riding within their capability and gaining experience.

Great grub was had by all and we departed in dribs and drabs around 13:00.
Thank you Abe and Sue for doing duty as sweep!

Just to correct my memory, there are THREE right turns...
all at T-junctions.


LESSONS LEARNED:

1. On the second leg, it would be useful for slower riders to set off in an arranged advance group 10 minutes ahead. They would be caught and overtaken en route by the main group to arrive closer together at the end venue.
2. For the ride home, a basic route for 'newby' riders to follow would help them as there are not always experienced riding buddies on their timeline to accompany them. (Apologies - I knew exactly where we were, but others didn't!)
