So, I wanted to ride the Harties dirt ride today. Andries has put together a good route. Something fresh - uncharted territory.

When we were to depart from the BP, my key was missing. After searching for a while I took Nicolle's bike and fetched my spare - got back to the BP so that she can go on the street ride.

After searching some more I put my tail between my legs and went home defeated.

When changing out of my kit, I went through my pants like a security guard at Ben Gurion Airport going through underpants.

The key was in my pants right at the bottom at my ankle, between the inner and outer linning!

Our washing machine has destroyed my pant's outer layer and a hole has opened up just above the pocket of my City 2 pants, so when I put my key into my pocket, as is my routine, I put it into the false pocket that had opened up above my real pocket.
Due to significant investment in a new business venture, I haven't been replacing kit for a while now, and things have fallen into disrepair.
Now it destroyed a Sunday ride - not happy!

Thanks to all for your efforts in searching. Theo, you were right!

My bike keys are all attached to lanyards.
I loop the lanyard through the big hole in the front of my helmet where my face goes and feed the key through the loop.
If need to find my keys, I just look for my helmet... :)
